The Corporation (Mawson Finland Limited) is an exploration stage mining development company engaged in the acquisition and exploration of precious and base metal properties in Finland. The Corporation currently holds a 100% interest in the Rajapalot Gold-Cobalt Project located in Finland. In Finland, all operations are carried out through the company’s fully owned subsidiary, Mawson Oy.

Mawson Finland Limited was formed to have a sole focus on the advancement of the Rajapalot Gold-Cobalt Project. The Company has a strong local management team who has high ESG standards and are committed to the proper and continuous engagement with the local stakeholders and all Finnish government authorities. Mawson Finland aims to create shareholder value by conducting all activities with balanced efficiency and also by maintaining a tight shareholder structure going forward.

Information about prospecting

Mawson Finland Limited acquired Rajapalot gold-cobalt project in Finnish Lapland in December 2023. The property is located in the northern Finland region known as Lapland, close to the Arctic Circle (25.0°E and 66.6°N). Rajapalot is a significant greenfields discovery (2012), advanced to brownfields and now development project – The PEA on Rajapalot has an inferred resource of 9,780,000 tonnes containing 867,000 ounces of Gold and 4,311 tonnes of Cobalt with grades of 2.8 g/t Gold and 441 ppm Cobalt in August 2021.

  • Biodiversity actions: Mawson ensures a continual assessment of operations to ensure protection of the environment, the community and the health and safety of employees. The Company has adopted a policy and maintains appropriate procedures to ensure that all Company activities are carried out in compliance with environmental and safety regulations, in a culture where the safety of personnel is paramount. Company recognizes environmental sustainability and respect for cultural and heritage issues as essential requirements for all activities. Procedures are maintained to ensure that the activity of employees and contractors are in accordance with this ethos. The Environmental, Health and Safety Policy has been adopted to affirm Mawson’s commitment to protecting the environment as well as the health and safety of its directors, officers, employees and consultants and the communities in which Mawson conducts its activities. Pursuant to the Environmental, Health and Safety Policy, management will ensure that environmental, health and safety policies, programs, and performance standards are an integral part of our planning and decision-making. Mawson’s directors, officers, employees and consultants are responsible and accountable for compliance and have an obligation to bring issues forward to management for resolution. Company has voluntarily implemented multiple different measures to secure and increase the biodiversity values of their areas. Such measures are for example buying land for conservation purposes, built artificial nests for birds, setting No Go -buffers and timely working restrictions for example for the bird nesting periods. Most of the drilling is done only in the winter time when a proper ice and snow coverage protects the vegetation and habitat types.

Impact on local livelihood:

The company uses the services of the region and nearby areas to a significant extent. The service provision required by the industry is available in abundance in Ylitornio, Rovaniemi and nearby municipalities. About 95% of purchases are made in the Northern Finland region, which means the effects on local businesses are very positive.

Impacts on nearby recreational use:

Prospecting has not been found to have any effects on the recreational use of the area. In autumn, some hunters pass through the area, and to a lesser extent berry pickers and mushroom pickers. Occasional hikers or snowmobilers are met in the area a few times a year. Recreational use volumes have not changed as a result of the company’s operations in one direction or the other. Company follows the approximate number of people visiting in the area annually.

Impacts on landscape value:

Exploration work don´t have impact on the landscape values. All trenches or even small pits are restored after the sampling and measurements.

Interaction with stakeholders

Stakeholder cooperation:

The company continuously cooperates with various stakeholders and invests in good interaction with local entities. The company keeps their doors open for everyone every second Tuesday at the local Ylitornio office, in addition, a big public event is also organized in the field annually. The company participates in various occasions and events organized by different parties at least 10-15 times a year, and it also shares information in official negotiations, meetings and on their websites which are in Finnish and in English. About 5-10 different bigger stakeholder groups visit the company’s premises annually, e.g. students, research organizations, members of other organizations and associations, etc.
