Description of the company

Boliden Kevitsa is a multi-metallic mine operating in the municipality of Sodankylä and a significant employer in Northern Finland. Our main products are copper and nickel concentrates. The concentrates also contain platinum, palladium, gold and cobalt. The ore concentrate is delivered for further processing, mainly to Boliden’s own smelter in Harjavalta. Boliden Kevitsa systematically works to minimize environmental impacts, increase energy efficiency and preserve biodiversity. We improve productivity and develop safety by investing heavily in automation, electrification and remote control.

Boliden Kevitsa’s key exploration activities in 2024 were located in Central Lapland in the areas of Sodankylä, Savukoski, Kittilä and Pelkosenniemi municipalities, as well as in the areas of Kiuruvesi, Pyhäjärvi, Leppävirta, Pielavesi, Lapinlahti, Suonenjoki and Kuopio municipalities. Boliden is mainly looking for nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and platinum group metals (PGE). The company uses deep drilling, base of till and bedrock chip sampling, geophysical measurements, outcrop chip sampling, geochemical sampling methods using hand tools (moraine, stream sediments, plants, etc.) and bedrock mapping as its exploration and research methods.
